-- Know Your Justin --

Fickle Fascination

Writing about myself isn't easy. I never know what to say. I always assume no one really cares. We're such selfish and disconnected creatures, whether we admit it or not, that reading a list of random facts about someone doesn't allow you to relate to that person on a real enough level. But until you can hook your brain up to my online profile through direct neural implants, reading my artist statements, influences and philosophies will have to do.

Philosophical Mumbo Jumbo

I'd like to describe myself as an evolutional futurist. And an optimistic one at that. This means that I constantly strive to understand and take advantage of the future of art, society, intelligence, etc. through evolutionary terms. Hopefully it doesn't come off as too pretentious sounding. The problem with this is that it doesn't readily correlate with my chosen profession of Web designer/artist/programmer.

But that is what I try to do with my work--melding my philosophy with this artistic profession. I'm always looking towards the future of web design, studying trends, developing new and more efficient habits of design and navigation, and looking at art through a more technical and logical lens than other developers (probably due to my computer science background). I am also mostly concerned with the big picture rather than the individual parts and focus on emergence and the complex interactions of the whole of design and art.

Personal Life

As for a more personal perspective, I am a very laid back person with a generally sunny disposition and a strong sense of humor. At the same time though, I can be cynical and untrusting but that can easily be shed when necessary. I believe in a subjective universe, so I don't really fault anyone for their beliefs and this allows me to work well with almost anyone.

As far as interests go, I love hard science and philosophy books (Greene, Hawkings, Kurzweil, Huxley), sci-fi movies and novels, jigsaw puzzles, playing guitar and bass, and video games. I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia and am employed as a Web Developer at [adult swim]. And finally, I spend more time on the Internet than I suppose I should. I blame the real world.
